What wood to use for natural wood cladding?

To enhance the aesthetic side of a house and optimize its protection, wood cladding is one of the trendiest solutions. However, for this coating to fully fulfill its role, it is necessary to choose the wood that will be used for its manufacture with care. To help you with this effect, here are the ones you can use for natural siding.

Sustainable natural woods for cladding

Durable natural woods do not necessarily require a specific treatment to resist humidity. In addition, the cladding made with material often does not need maintenance to preserve their authenticity, its natural color and its nobility. Among the durable natural woods that can be used for siding are:

  • larch cladding which is characterized by its simplicity and authenticity. Endowed with a great resistance, this wood is identifiable thanks to its light brown or natural orange color.
  • Douglas siding : it is generally used for covering terraces. It is characterized by its pinkish or brownish-red color.
  • chestnut cladding : this type of wood can be placed on any type of construction. It is also able to protect against the weather while giving an aesthetic appearance to the facades.
  • Robinia cladding has great hardness. This ecological and aesthetic solution protects and insulates your home against humidity.
  • oak cladding which is characterized by its brushed pine look. Healthy and respectful of the environment, this essence is perfectly resistant to humidity.

You can also add Red Cedar cladding. The latter is characterized by its intense red color, its great resistance and its absorption capacity.

Treated wood for cladding

It is also possible to use treated wood for cladding. There are indeed different treatment methods for this type of natural wood. In fact, the most common is autoclave treatment. Among the species of wood which can be treated by autoclave, mention may be made of Scots pine or even maritime pine.

Another type of treatment that the wood can undergo is the high temperature treatment. The latter is often considered the best ecological alternative to the chemical treatment of wood. Among the woods which can be treated by high temperature, mention may be made of spruce, fir, pine or even poplar.

Finally, the wood cladding can be treated by oleothermy. This type of treatment consists of heating the wood in the oven, at a high temperature and under controlled pressure. Douglas fir is one of the woods that can be treated by homeothermy.

composite wood

This one is obtained by mixing wood particles with another type of material. We can thus find mixtures of wood fiber and polymer resin or cement. One of the advantages of composite wood is that it offers a wide range of finishes and colors. In addition, composite wood cladding is non-porous and has the particularity of not attracting insects.

Other natural wood species such as fir cladding or finger-jointed wood cladding can also be used for the exterior cladding.
